RingJect is a new pre-loaded capsular tension ring (CTR) delivered in a single use injector system. Manufactured by Ophtec. RingJect is available in the UK from Spectrum. Capsular Tension Rings stabilise the eye’s capsular bag during cataract surgery in the presence of weakened or compromised zonulae. RingJect is supplied as a single use item and is designed to enable multi directional injection which makes it easy for the ophthalmic surgeon to use with just one hand. RingJect is available in two sizes: the PC375 for compression from 12mm to 10mm and the PC376 for compression from 13mm to 11mm.
RingJect is self-loading and can be used to inject the ring either clockwise or anti-clockwise through a micro incision and has a long tip which is useful for deep-set eyes. It provides for safe intra-ocular lens (IOL) centration in eyes with zonular dehiscence. One of the most common causes of zonular dehiscence is pseudoexfoliation. Extraocular trauma and surgical trauma are also frequent causes. In addition, zonular dehiscence can be brought on by genetic or congenital disorders such as Marfan syndrome. RingJect prevents decentration after capsular shrinking and offers stability during phacoemulsification cataract surgery as well as reducing the risk of capsular fibrosis. RingJect can also improve visual acuity when implanted in combination with a Premium IOL.
Jackie Handley – Manager Innovative Products at Spectrum UK comments, “the unique feature associated with the Rinject product is the proprietary manufacturing process used to manufacture each Ringject capsular tension ring - compression moulding. This process provides a tension ring with total flexibility which ensures that each ring can be manipulated during surgery without the fear of snapping, unlike most other tension rings which can be brittle and can snap when inserted under stress.”
