Enclavation of Artisan Aphakic lens now made easy with Vacufix

17th April 2012 08:59

The Artisan Aphakic lenses continue record growth with surgeons choosing this option in both primary and secondary lens replacement procedures where lens placement is not possible in the capsular bag.

Now available for surgeons is the Vacufix which is a new disposable instrument manufactured by Ophtec, available from Spectrum which attaches to any phaco system to easily aspirate a perfect fold of iris tissue through the claw of the Artisan aphakic and toric lenses.

Following vitrectomy surgery, lens removal in Marfan’s Syndrome, post graft and trauma eyes, Artisan aphakic fixation can be challenging due to soft eyes, the iris bowing posteriorly and poor peripheral view if scarring is present.

The Vacufix uses a predetermined amount of vacuum to allow a very controlled and precise enclavation of the lens to the iris.  With the Vacufix it is also easy to keep the lens stable during the enclavation process creating perfect centration.
