Medennium - SmartPLUG

SmartPLUG from Medennium is designed to fit a wide range of punctum sizes and provide comfortable and effective long-term occlusion of the punctum. Made of an innovative thermosensitive, hydrophobic acrylic polymer, SmartPLUG conforms to the exact shape and size of the punctum for a precise, comfortable fit. Unlike rigid silicone plugs with exposed heads, SmartPLUG has no protruding cap that can irritate and cause discomfort.

SmartPLUG is a thin, rigid ∼ 6 mm acrylic rod in length and .4mm in diameter before placement into the undilated punctum at room temperature or topical anesthesia is optional.
Once inside the punctum and in contact with body temperature, SmartPLUG shrinks in length and expands in width, reshaping itself into a soft, gel-like plug.
SmartPLUG accommodates to fit a range of puncta, eliminating the need for measurement and stocking different size plugs.
Once in place, SmartPLUG does not protrude from the punctum, making it more aesthetically pleasing for the patient.
The material and design of SmartPLUG eliminates the need for the head and anchor found on rigid silicone plugs, decreasing the potential for irritation of sensitive tissues.
SmartPLUG cannot be rubbed out. If desired, it can be removed by irrigation.
