The Barron Radial Vacuum Trephine is designed for cutting the recipient cornea. It features a 360 degree suction chamber, divided into 16 compartments. By dividing the suction chamber, less corneal tissue is aspirated, thus reducing corneal distortion. The result is a consistently accurate, uniform and perpendicular cut. The 16 radial divisions leave a symmetrical pattern on the recipient bed for accurate alignment of sutures to minimize surgically induced astigmatism. These divisions may be inked with a sterile marking pen to be clearly visible for the duration of the surgical procedure. Fine cross hairs are provided for accurate alignment with the visual axis of the recipient. A precisely calibrated rotating mechanism allows the surgeon to advance the blade depth 0.25mm with each 360 degree rotation. Thus, the trephine is ideally suited for lamellar or penetrating keratoplasty.

The Barron Vacuum Punch features a solid stainless steel blade which is permanently mounted in a nylon housing. Four steel guide posts align with four corresponding holes in the cutting block base, automatically centering the blade over the donor cornea. The base of the punch features a circular groove for aspirating the epithelial side of the cornea, immobilizing it for cutting the button. The seating ring is used to ensure complete contact between peripheral cornea and aspirating groove for positive vacuum, so that a perfectly round button can be cut from the centre of the cornea every time. The cutting block well has four small holes which may be inked with a sterile marking pen (included) to identify the four quadrants of the cornea for cardinal suture alignment in the recipient bed.
To cut the donor cornea from the epithelial side
The World's only Disposable artificial Anterior Chamber
The Barron Artificial Chamber is comprised of three pieces: base with tissue pedestal, tissue retainer and locking ring. The base has two ports with silicone tubing, in-line pinch clamps and female luer-lok connectors. Either port may be used to inject or aspirate viscoelastic, balanced salt solution (BSS) or air.
This new artificial Anterior Chamber is a companion to the Barron Radial Vacuum Trephine. It is designed to firmly hold the donor cornea (14-18mm) on a bed of viscoelastic, inflate it, and cut it with the Barron Trephine from the epithelial side. Cutting from the epithelial side produces a much better donor-to-host match which dramatically reduces surgically induced astigmatism.
The bright blue colour of the unit provides a high contract background for visualising the cornea.
