Our History

Spectrum UK was founded in 1987 by the current directors and owners of the company.

Over the past 25 years, Spectrum UK has grown to become the largest independently owned distributor of ophthalmic surgical products. Spectrum UK is now the leading supplier of some of the world's top ophthalmic brands distributed exclusively to ophthalmic professionals in the UK and Ireland.

In 1987 Spectrum UK launched the OMS phaco and vitrectomy systems. With the advent of foldable intra-ocular lenses (IOL) in the late 1980's, Spectrum UK brought to  the UK market the first  IOL which could be implanted following cataract surgery via a 3.2mm incision. Since this time Spectrum UK has introduced several ground breaking surgical and diagnostic technologies to the UK and Irish ophthalmic markets.
